This blog post is the English version of a total assets at July of Japanese version.
Hello, I’m Uzumero as a Japanese salaryman (X account ).
I would like to disclose and analyze my total assets as of the end of July 2024.
I consider my health to be part of my assets, so I am also disclosing my monthly weight, body fat percentage and sleep time.
Total assets
Total assets as of the end of July 2024 were…
54,358,082 yen!
This is an decrease of 706,492 yen(-1.3%) over last month!
Converting total assets to dollars, it would be about $367,000 (converted to 148 yen to the dollar).
The comparison to last month is as follows.
The changes since January 2024 are as follows.
Total assets decreased from [ 55.06 million yen ] in July to [ 55.35 million yen ], an decrease of about 0.7 milion yen (-1.3%) in one month.
The ratios of risk assets to total assets, risk-free assets, and cash in July are as follows.
The ratio has remained almost the same as last month. I think the risk assets ratio is still high, so I will continue to keep my deposits low and not increase the percentage of risk assets.
Next, I will present the details of the change in the breakdown.
Change in Risk Assets in July.
Risk assets (valuation) decreased about 0.47 milion yen (-1.0%) from [ 45.7 million yen ] to [45.2 million yen ].
In addition, unrealized gains/losses (unrealized profits) were approximately 11.7 million yen, an decerase of approximately 0.58 million yen (-4.74%) in one month.
Change in Risk-Free Assets in July
Risk-free assets did not change from 500 million yen, but the breakdown changed.
Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) increased by 500,000 yen and Rakuten Bank Money Bridge decreased by 500,000 yen.
I transfer 500,000 yen from Rakuten Bank Money Bridge to a Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) every month.
Here is a breakdown of the current risk-free assets.
- Government bonds for individuals「10-Year Floating-Rate」【3.5 million yen】
- Rakuten Bank Money Bridge【1.5 million yen】
The purchase amount and interest rate for my current holdings of Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) are as follows.
Purchase amount | Interest Rate (before tax) | |
No.167 | 1,000,000yen | 0.49% |
No.168 | 500,000yen | 0.47% |
No.169 | 500,000yen | 0.50% |
No.170 | 500,000yen | 0.57% |
No.171 | 500,000yen | 0.69% |
No.172 | 500,000yen | 0.72% |
The following chart shows the change in the first interest rate from January 2023 (153rd) to 172th, and it has been slowly rising.
The payment date for the “10-year floating-rate” individual JGB is once every six months, so I look forward to that date.
Changes in Standby Funds
Standby funds (cash) decreased from 2.86 million yen to 2.63 million yen ( -236,168 yen ).
I had a large credit card debit for an air conditioner bill and other items, which reduced my standby fund.
Although the standby fund decreased this month, I would like to continue to work on increasing the standby fund.
Credit card payment. Just when you think you’ve forgotten, they show up.
Health assets (weight, body fat percentage, sleep duration)
The most obvious indicators of health are considered to be [ weight ], [ body fat percentage ], and [ sleep duration ].
Bodyweight and body fat percentage are factors related to various diseases and lifestyle-related diseases. In addition, less [ sleep time ] can have a serious impact on physical and mental health, including daily vitality and mental health.
It is meaningless if you have saved money while in your 40s, but your health is compromised in your 50s and 60s. Therefore, I also disclose [weight], [body fat percentage], and [sleeping hours] as indicators of healthy assets.
Weight and body fat percentage
Weight and body fat changes through July were as follows.
Compared to last month, both weight and body fat increased, but not enough to be a concern.
Since I have not been so conscious of losing weight, I do not think it would be a good idea to lose too much weight.
In the future, I would like to increase my muscle mass and be conscious of gaining weight.
The main things I pay attention to in my diet are as follows.
- Eat three meals a day.
- Finish dinner before 7:00 p.m.
- Do not eat anything after dinner.
- Eat carbohydrates, protein and vegetables at every meal.
- Eat nuts as snacks.
- Measure weight and body fat percentage daily.
I think the most effective diet that has helped me keep my weight in this category is not eating anything after 7:00 p.m. and being able to fast for 12 hours from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next day.
After that, I think that measuring my weight and body fat percentage daily is also important for weight management.
Recently, there are many scales on the market that can be easily managed in conjunction with smartphone apps, which I think is convenient for daily management.
Weight fluctuates greatly within a day. To manage your weight on a daily basis, it is recommended to measure your weight at a time when it is stable. I measure my weight every day right after I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom.
By the way, I use the previous version of ↓.
Sleeping Time
The average amount of sleep in July was [7 hours 28 minutes] per day. Compared to last month, this is an decrease of 35 minutes.
The reason for the decrease in sleep is that I have been getting up earlier in the morning, perhaps due to the effects of earlier days in the summer.
According to the “Sleep Guidelines for Health Promotion 2014 in japanese,” as explained below, it is not so much a problem to sleep less during the summer months.
Sleep duration shows changes such as shorter sleep duration in seasons with longer days and longer sleep duration in seasons with shorter days.
Sleep Guidelines for Health Promotion 2014 (PDF) in japanese
However, I do feel a little sleepy, so I think I may live on personal daylight saving time, moving the clocks forward about 30 minutes during the summer.
This year’s heat wave in japan is really bad, and I think it was the right decision to install a new air conditioner in May.
Summary and Future Policies
This month, risk assets decreased due to falling stock prices and the strong yen, combined with slightly larger expenditures, resulting in a decrease in total assets for the first time this year.
Well, I am not too concerned about the decrease in assets because the market has been too good this year and the annual gain is substantial, but I expect the impact of the strong yen and rising interest rates to appear in the future, so I will keep a close eye on it.
In addition, as I am due to have a baby soon, I would like to increase my risk-free assets such as cash in moderation, in preparation for the upcoming childbirth and child-rearing.
With regard to health assets, I believe that I have been able to keep both my weight and body fat percentage in good condition, and I will make an effort to continue to do so in the future. Currently, I am doing some strength training to increase my muscle mass a bit more.
I am sleeping a little less, but I believe this is due to the season, and I would like to handle it well.
Thank you again for reading this issue.
