This blog post is the English version of a previous blog post (total assets at Apr.).
Hello, I’m Uzumero as a Japanese salaryman (X account ).
I would like to disclose and analyze my total assets as of the end of April 2024.
I consider my health to be part of my assets, so I am also disclosing my monthly weight, body fat percentage and sleep time.
Total assets (as of April 30, 2024)
Total assets as of the end of April 2024 were…
51,952,383 yen!
This is an increase of 69,281 yen over last month!
Converting total assets to dollars, it would be about $335,000 (converted to 155 yen to the dollar). In dollar terms, this is $5,000 less than last month… (due to the weaker yen):‑( .
The comparison to last month is as follows.
(yen) | Total assets | Risk assets | Risk-free assets | Standby funds | Life defense fund |
Mar.2024 | 51,883,101 | 43,814,554 | 5,000,000 | 1,568,544 | 1,500,003 |
Apr.2024 | 51,952,383 | 43,735,951 | 5,000,000 | 1,716,429 | 1,500,003 |
compared to last month | 69,281 | -78,604 | 0 | 147,885 | 0 |
rate of change | +0.1% | -0.2% | 0.0% | +9.4% | 0.0% |
The changes since January 2024 are as follows.
Total assets increased from [ 51.88 million yen ] in March to [ 51.95 million yen ], an increase of 69,281 yen (+0.1%) in one month.
The ratios of risk assets to total assets, risk-free assets, and cash are as follows.
The percentage of risk assets in total assets is 84%, a fairly high percentage. I am currently trying not to increase the percentage of risk assets too much.
Next, I will present the details of the change in the breakdown.
Change in Risk Assets in April.
Risk assets (valuation) decreased 78,604 yen (-0.2%) from [ 43.81 million yen ] to [ 43.73 million yen ].
The net amount of purchases and sales of risk assets this month was about 80,000 yen, resulting in a decrease of about 160,000 yen in valuation gains/losses (see chart below).
The following chart shows the development of the major equity indices in April.
description or index | Mar. | Apr | rate of return |
eMAXIS Slim (all country) | 24,097 | 24,470 | +1.55% |
S&P500 | 5254 | 5036 | -4.16% |
Nikkei Stock Averate | 40369 | 38406 | -4.86% |
TOPIX | 2769 | 2743 | -0.92% |
In April, the S&P 500 and the Nikkei fell sharply by about -4%, and the TOPIX fell by about 1%. eMAXIS Slim (all country) is considering +1.55%, partly due to the increase at the end of April. Since the price of eMAXIS Slim (all country) is converted into yen, the sharp depreciation of the yen at the end of April may have had an impact.
My risk assets is global stocks and S&P500 indexes account for 50%, and Japanese stocks and high dividend-paying stocks in U.S. ETFs account for about 40%.
While the S&P 500 and Nikkei fell sharply, it may have been the strong performance of Japanese high-dividend stocks that kept the decline in my risk assets below 1%.
Change in Risk-Free Assets in March
Risk-free assets did not change from 500 million yen, but the breakdown changed.
Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) increased by 500,000 yen and Rakuten Bank Money Bridge decreased by 500,000 yen.
I transfer 500,000 yen from Rakuten Bank Money Bridge to a Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) every month.
- Government bonds for individuals「10-Year Floating-Rate」【2 million yen】
- Rakuten Bank Money Bridge【3 million yen】
The purchase amount and interest rate for my current holdings of Government bonds for individuals (10-Year Floating-Rate) are as follows.
Purchase amount | Interest Rate (before tax) | |
No.167(Feb) | 1,000,000yen | 0.49% |
No.168(Mar) | 500,000yen | 0.47% |
No.169 (Apr) | 500,000yen | 0.50% |
Rakuten Bank accounts with Money Bridge setup will earn 0.1% (before tax) up to 3 million yen (as of 5/20/2024).
Changes in Standby Funds
Standby funds (cash) increased from 1.57 million yen to 1.71 million yen ( + 147,000 yen ).
Since there were fewer purchases of risk assets in April, I believe that the standby funds increased due to salary savings and dividends.
I intend to continue to increase my standby funds.
Health assets (weight, body fat percentage, sleep duration)
The most obvious indicators of health are considered to be [ weight ], [ body fat percentage ], and [ sleep duration ].
Bodyweight and body fat percentage are factors related to various diseases and lifestyle-related diseases. In addition, less [ sleep time ] can have a serious impact on physical and mental health, including daily vitality and mental health.
It is meaningless if you have saved money while in your 40s, but your health is compromised in your 50s and 60s. Therefore, I also disclose [weight], [body fat percentage], and [sleeping hours] as indicators of healthy assets.
Weight and body fat percentage
Weight and body fat changes through April were as follows.
Weight has remained virtually unchnaged since February. Body fat percentage has decreased slightly, but is considered to be within the margin of error.
In April, I have not been particularly conscious about weight management, etc. in my usual life, but I would like to keep it that way.
However, since I am here, I would like to introduce what I am paying attention to in terms of diet.
- Eat three meals a day.
- Finish dinner before 7:00 p.m.
- Do not eat anything after dinner.
- Eat carbohydrates, protein and vegetables at every meal.
- Eat nuts as snacks.
- Measure weight and body fat percentage daily.
I think the most effective diet that has helped me keep my weight in this category is not eating anything after 7:00 p.m. and being able to fast for 12 hours from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the next day.
After that, I think that measuring my weight and body fat percentage daily is also important for weight management.
Recently, there are many scales on the market that can be easily managed in conjunction with smartphone apps, which I think is convenient for daily management.
Weight fluctuates greatly within a day. To manage your weight on a daily basis, it is recommended to measure your weight at a time when it is stable. I measure my weight every day right after I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom.
By the way, I use the previous version of ↓.
Sleeping Time
The average amount of sleep in March was [7 hours 48 minutes] per day. Compared to last month, this is an decreas of 1 minutes. This data is from Pokemon Sleep, but I go to bed around 11:00 and wake up around 7:00 every day, so I don’t feel it is so wrong.
In April, there were some nights when I had difficulty sleeping due to congestion caused by hay fever, but recently the hay fever has calmed down and I think I am getting a good night’s sleep. I will continue to take care not to lose sleep.
Summary and Future Policies
In this issue, I disclosed the total asset situation as of the end of April.
There was not much change in total assets in April. I plan to continue with my current investments so as not to increase my risk assets too much.
Thank you again for reading this issue.
